Dr Louise Coats is an Adult Congenital Cardiologist and Adult Lead for the North East and North Cumbria Congenital Heart Disease Network
Dr Louise Coats studied Medicine at St George's Hospital, London, qualifying with distinction in Medicine and awarded the Brackenbury prize for Medicine (1999). She trained in Medicine in Plymouth and London achieving Membership of the Royal College of Physicians; MRCP (UK) in 2002.
Her PhD thesis investigated Physiological Adaptation to Acute Relief of Adverse Right Ventricular Loading Conditions and was completed under the supervision of Professors John Deanfield and Philipp Bonhoeffer at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and The Heart Hospital, London with the support of a British Heart Foundation Junior Fellowship.
She completed her general cardiology and adult congenital cardiology training in Newcastle with additional training in congenital cardiac MRI at Great Ormond Street. As a trainee she held an NIHR funded clinical lecturer post and investigated atrial flow in patent foramen ovale with 4D flow MRI.
She has an interest in heart failure in adult congenital heart disease, specifically the failing Fontan population.
