Dr Abbas Khushnood is Consultant in Paediatric & Congenital Cardiology and a Transplant physician. He is Clinical lead for cardiac imaging, Network lead for north-east region and Clinical lead for National Congenital Heart Disease Audit, NICOR.
Biography
Dr Abbas Khushnood completed his medical degree in India and post-graduation in business management from Cardiff University. Having begun his NHS career in 2007, he has trained at a number of tertiary congenital cardiac centres including GOSH, Birmingham Children’s hospital and AlderHey Children’s hospital.
Dr Abbas Khushnood was appointed as Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle in 2018. He has been the Network Lead for North-East Paediatric CHD Network (NENC-CHDN) and Clinical Lead for Cardiac Imaging from 2019. He is also Clinical Lead for National Congenital Heart Disease Audit, NICOR from 2020.
Dr Khushnood’s interests include cardiac transplantation, advanced heart failure management for failing heart including ventricular assist devices and cardiac MRI.
He is a Member of International society of Heart and Lung Transplant (ISHLT).
Dr Khushnood has taken a 2-year clinical research fellowship in Cardiac MRI with University College London and Great Ormond street Hospital, UK.
